Keep some of our sales tax in Broward County
With State financial support for public education on the decline, businesses can help close the gap in funding and enhance education with the stroke of a pen.Last year, Florida businesses retained $61 Million in collection allowances as compensation for time spent on accounting and filing returns.

Now you can Send Your Sales Tax to School.  To participate, simply check the box on the sales tax remittance form to waive the collection fee and contribute it to classroom technology right here in Broward County.

The dollars will help ensure Florida’s students are further exposed to technology and its future workforce is trained in the latest applications.

For further information on the Send Your Sales Tax to School Program, please call Robert Legg at 954-436-7909 ext. 264.

The City of Coral Springs has implemented a new program for parents to interact with the Police Department regarding safety issues and concerns in public schools located in Coral Springs.  The program is called the Public School Safety Forum. Residents can access the Forum through the City of Coral Springs website at www.coralsprings.org in the Our Schools section.  Here is the Forum for your review: http://p068.ezboard.com/bpublicschoolsafety

SROs will share information received through the Public School Safety Forum with you to help enhance the safety in your schools.

Change Your Life 15 Minutes at a Time

Often we make resolutions to change for the better only to find that we set the bar too high for starters. Or we may impose new restrictions on our children, but they have a hard time holding to it. Perhaps a new approach would be to chip away at the goal by using the 15-minute rule.

What is the 15-minute rule? The 15-minute rule is simply setting a goal to work on an activity for only 15-minutes. Sometimes a task viewed in its entirety seems daunting- making starting it difficult. Parents, have you noticed this with your children? However, breaking the task up into 15-minute increments can be easier to digest. Help your children by setting a timer. (I find the stove timer works just fine.) Let them know that when the 15- minutes are up, they can take a break for15- minutes, or they can continue working for another fifteen. Your children may find that they can accomplish a great deal in 15-minutes. You may also want to employ this for practicing musical instruments and chores. You may even decide to try it for yourself, providing a live-in role model for your children.

Essentially the fifteen minute rule puts life into manageable increments, which can be a great way to encourage your children to prepare for the FCAT test while keeping up with school work. Why not give it a try? It’s only fifteen minutes.
